Description

TAURO is a collaborative project led by Toronto-based artist Cynthia Tauro, developed in close creative partnership with Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene. What began as informal writing sessions in a living room naturally evolved into a structured body of work, built on trust, a shared musical language, and a willingness not to overthink the next steps. The project is deliberately stripped down: the music guides the process. Act One blends direct, emotional pop songwriting with jazz-tinged harmonies, synthetic textures, and subtle rhythmic experimentation. Drawing inspiration from artists like Air, Sade, Carole King, and Tracey Thorn, the songs oscillate between intimacy and energy, shaped by recent personal upheavals and a shared desire to follow each track’s natural course rather than imposing a predefined sound. The production, song-focused and exploratory, allows texture and arrangement to emerge intuitively. With contributions from trusted collaborators such as Thom D’Arcy, Kintaro Akiyama, Moose (Spencer Muscio), and Josh Trager, the album benefits from solid creative experience while remaining centered on Cynthia’s voice and perspective. Early support from influential media outlets like KEXP, KCRW, and CBC Radio Canada suggests strong potential for airplay, positioning TAURO as a modern, songwriter-driven project with long-term development potential rather than a one-off collaboration.
