Fado Jazz

Description

Júlio Resende is a Portuguese pianist and composer. He is the pioneer of the "Fado-Jazz" genre. His improvisation techniques cover a wide musical spectrum, from jazz to fado, including classical music and even electronic music. Resende is a true pioneer whose profile in Portugal is already established. While he fills classical concert halls, he has also ranked well in the Portuguese pop charts; he has also performed in duo with the classical piano legend Maria João Pires. His music has accompanied series on HBO and Netflix.
The Spanish newspaper "El Pais" says of him: "Júlio Resende's approach to fado recalls what Keith Jarrett does with jazz standards"; and Alex Dutilh from France Musique states: "Júlio Resende, the latest discovery of the Portuguese scene, is one of the most promising musicians. His playing is on par with pianists such as Stefano Bollani or Yaron Herman."
