Nuna

Description

Son of the Cuban troubadour JOSÉ AQUILES, influenced from childhood by RAMON VALLE, EMILIANO SALVADOR or GONZALO RUBALCABA, the pianist chose, as soon as he arrived in New York in 2008, to measure himself against the greatest. STEVE COLEMAN, WADADA LEO SMITH, ANDREW CYRILLE, CHRIS POTTER or TOMASZ STANKO thus became regular partners. Nuna is the result, as for other musicians, of the long months of confinement brought on by the pandemic. The pianist describes Nuna as a metaphor for the piano, considered an archaic, ancient and revered instrument. Among the influences on this solo repertoire: FREDERIC CHOPIN, ALEXANDRE SCRIABINE, MUSTAPHA SKANDRANI or EMAHOY TSEGUE-MARYAM GUEBROU.
