Like many bands who cut their teeth in the Seattle area's early 90s basements, halls, and teen centers, the trio Lync shared similar roots with the local rock heroes of the era, but conscientiously refused the trappings of mainstream success. Lync kept the grit, shouted vocals, and raucous choruses, but forfeited the machismo and arrogance of metal. Their overall approach is one of heartfelt melodies, crashing drums, ragged shouts, grimy bass lines, and fractured guitars. Lync's legacy has been woven with artists like Modest Mouse, 764-Hero, and Red Stars Theory, bands who played a crucial role in the inception of Suicide Squeeze Records. Lync's original version of "Cue Cards" is paired with a cover by Julia & The Squeezettes, a Suicide Squeeze-centric all-star band comprised of Julia Kugel of The Coathangers and Julia, Julia, Staz Lindes of The Paranoyds, Bonnie Bloomgarden of Death Valley Girls, and Rikki Styxx. In their rendition, Julia & The Squeezettes abandon the distorted bombardment of the original for an up-tempo minimalism. Pressed on blue 45 RPM vinyl.
