Regardless of your stance on the subject, Autumn's heartbreaking odyssey evokes compassion and contemplation, two rare states of mind these days. And Autumn is accompanied at every step of her journey by the haunting and sometimes painfully sad score of cult favorite composer Julia Holter. Much of the film consists of close-ups of Autumn's face as she tries to process what is happening to her and what surrounds her; rarely has a film score captured a character's inner monologue with such insight and grace.
