Julia Cumming's solo debut, Julia, opens with a no-frills declaration of independence: her voice and a piano unite for a liberating proclamation of self, rejecting doubt, misogyny, and the idea of being "too much." Julia opens a long-matured creative door for the New York-born multi-instrumentalist and Sunflower Bean bassist, the culmination of nearly two decades of bands, releases, labels, and intensive touring. At the end of the Headful of Sugar era in 2023, Cumming settles in Los Angeles, where a deeply restorative two-year collaboration with producer Brian Robert Jones takes shape—her "artistic second puberty."
