SPECIAL REISSUE OF SEGUNDO, THE ICONIC ALBUM THAT LAUNCHED JUANA MOLINA. ENCHANTING, SUMPTUOUS, VISIONARY.To celebrate the 21st anniversary of this iconic album by Juana Molina, released in 2000, here is a very special reissue, remastered and accompanied by a comprehensive booklet tracing the beginnings of Juana's musical career, containing numerous anecdotes, testimonials, photos, and unreleased drawings. The album Segundo was the starting point for Juana Molina's international career, and the story of this record is full of twists and turns. After ending her career as a television comedian at the peak of her fame in her native Argentina, Juana signed with a major label, which envisioned making her the spearhead of a new Latin pop wave, and had her record an overproduced album with a star producer. Juana then decided to find her own way and began working on a second album (which would simply be titled Segundo). The adventure would last four years, involving recording sessions in Argentina and several successive apartments she occupied on the west coast of the United States, a failed attempt to obtain a green card, the involvement of several producers and four different record labels, each of whom had their own idea of the direction Juana should take... Juana remained indomitable, pursued her path, and along the way, developed her personal method and the particular sound that would characterize her music. She writes: "From the moment Segundo took shape, I embarked on a path that I have not abandoned to this day. That is why this album is so important to me. It contains in germ everything I have done since. I understood how to compose in real time, learned to abandon the very concept of a "demo", discovered how to fix and build on these moments of research and discoveries. Everything else became superfluous."Segundo was finally released on a small Argentine label, semi-accidentally found its way to Japan where the album instantly took off, and was finally released by the important English label Domino in 2003. The reception of Segundo launched Juana Molina's career, allowing her to start touring worldwide, build a fervent fan base, and continue to record increasingly extraordinary albums, including five studio albums (the latest, Halo, was highly praised by Anglo-Saxon media upon its release in 2017) and one live album (ANRMAL, 2020)." SHE CONTINUES TO CHART A VISIONARY COURSE..."---TÉLÉRAMA ---." THIS ALBUM IS PROOF OF GENIUS, OF PURE GENIUS." --- LES INROCKS ---." AN ORGANIC AND STUNNING ALBUM.." --- LIBÉRATION ---." She belongs to a rather rare breed of musicians: free musicians. Like a Björk or a Robert Wyatt, she is free... Pure genius, having reached a dimension rarely frequented by ordinary mortals: that of pure music." --- LES INROCKS ---." SUBTLE AND UNCLASSIFIABLE SONIC MAGIC, BY A MAJOR ARTIST." --- UNCUT/ UK ---." Juana Molina's sound is so precious and rare that attempting to alter its formula would be like destroying a singular and unique architectural work, or witnessing the extinction of a rare and splendid animal species. (...) Just as experimental as Björk, but much more appealing." --- ALL MUSIC - USA---.
