PRIMEIRO DISCO (2 vinyls)

Description

SINGER AND GUITARIST OF STUCK IN THE SOUND. "A FIRST ELECTRO-POP SOLO ALBUM, SUNNY, DANCEABLE AND SUMMERY." With its evocative title, 'Primeiro Disco' can be enjoyed as an inaugural journey to meet José's diverse biographical, cultural and musical influences. The artist's family cradle, Portugal, imbues this first album with its presence through an obvious linguistic choice and the sketching, over the course of the songs, of a colourful panorama. This very personal excursion that José offers us envelops the album in an intimate atmosphere. Particularly perceptible in the acoustic tracks, it first appears in the gentle awakening of 'Fugir', whose stripped-down arpeggios form the foundation of a faded voice. This same theme, that of an inevitable exile, is found in the refined folk of 'O Berço da Terra'. On 'Primavera', the guitar is accompanied by ample choirs, giving an almost sacred tone to this very personal piece, whose intensity testifies to the imprint of fado. And if Portuguese naturally associates with the melancholic moods that punctuate this opus, the language can also be malleable and become the receptacle of a dancing and radiant pop. The catchy 'José, José, José!', a dreamlike wander through which the artist searches for his identity, thus becomes a catchy anthem that can be sung at the top of one's voice. An energy of which we had a foretaste with the luminous, albeit nostalgic, refrains of 'Dada'. These pop flights culminate in the exalted singing of 'Paraiso' and its crystalline reverberations. On several occasions, Portuguese gives way to English, as in the groovy impulses of 'Intentions', on which an accomplice female voice is invited. A bias that opens the door to new avenues and tempers the warm sounds of the album. On the piano clouds of 'Easy', the voice thus becomes sophisticated and blends the two languages for a plaintive song with a feverish mood. An emotion also highlighted in the ballad 'Avalanche'. The vocal poetry that dominates the album is alternated with instrumental interludes with electro tones. The symphonic escape 'Magic escape', traversed by synthetic layers and choppy voices, offers a first approach and thus opens the way to instrumental pieces with clubbing tendencies such as the progressive 'Beyond Doubt' or the track adorned with house impulses 'Facif'. It is with the only title in French, 'Sanguine', that the album concludes. An electric and sensual track that will find its place in a nocturnal playlist. 'Primeiro Disco' is brilliantly orchestrated. Harmonised, the titles create a rich musical identity and thus sublimate a whole range of emotions, as intense as they are varied. And without ever losing a strange but typical melancholy, 'saudade', the album results in a sunny, danceable and summery first disc.
