The DLW trio has been working together for twelve years and now sets the tone on the modern European music scene, having long since transcended the boundaries of jazz. DLW consists of vibraphonist Christopher Dell, virtuoso Danish bassist Jonas Westergaard, and German drummer Christian Lillinger. The three Berlin-based jazz musicians regularly play with classical or avant-garde artists. "Supermodern" is the project that brings together the three musicians of DLW and American pianist Bob Degen. This music is also unique. It pays tribute to the legendary Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ), which, in the 1950s, formed the link between chamber jazz and European classical music. With "Supermodern," this reference to the MJQ is illuminated from the perspective of European avant-garde music, rather than its Afro-American roots, which nevertheless respectfully resonate throughout the album.
