Siwan - Hafla

Description

The transcultural and trans-idiomatic musical collective led by Norwegian keyboardist and composer Jon Balke continues to forge its singular path here with a third album, featuring a new repertoire inspired by the creative spirit of Al-Andalus. On the album Siwan Halfa, the texts were set to music by Balke and performed with fervor by Algerian singer Mona Boutchebak, and include verses by the Umayyad princess Wallada bint al-Mustakfi (1010-1091) as well as by contemporary poets such as Ibn Zaydun (1003-1071) and Ibn Sara As-Santarini (1043-1123).
