An inimitable legend and versatile singer, Johnny Hallyday (1943-2017) is France's biggest rock star and one of its most colourful cultural icons. His sense of rock'n'roll, with its rebellious trappings, was impeccable, and his legacy remains undeniably electric. On side 1, this 12" vinyl presents the little-known record "Johnny Hallyday et Ses "Fans" Au Festival de Rock’N' Roll". It was originally released by Disques Vogue in 1961 (as a 10" LP) just before Johnny signed with Philips. It features an excellent performance at France's first true rock festival, which took place at the Palais des Sports in Paris in February 1961. This album was presented as having been recorded live at the event, however, although it was produced in concert, it was recorded in the studio during the band's rehearsals. The audience's applause from the concert was subsequently re-recorded at the end of each track to give the impression that it was a live recording. On side 2, this collector's edition features the complete contents of two Johnny EPs, both released in France by Disques Vogue: "Itsy bitsy petit bikini" (1960) and "24.000 baisers" (1961). Among the highlights are the song "Itsy bitsy petit bikini", "Je veux me promener" (French rendition of Fats Domino's "I Want to Walk You Home"), the original studio version of "Depuis qu'ma môme", "Ton fétiche d'amour", as well as one of Adriano Celentano's early hits, "24 Mila Baci" ("24.000 baisers"), and Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller's "Sentimental" ("Baby I Don't Care").
