On July 27, 1990, Johnny Griffin, the legendary tenor saxophonist nicknamed The Little Giant, set the Långvinkeln Jazz Club in Helsingborg, Sweden, ablaze. Accompanied by Danish musicians Thomas Clausen (piano), Mads Vinding (bass) and Svend-Erik Nørregård (drums), Griffin delivered a vibrant and jubilant jazz evening, true to his inimitable style. This previously unreleased live recording of 6 tracks will be published by Storyville Records under the title Johnny Griffin & Thomas Clausen's Trio - Live in Helsingborg 1990.Revealed in the 1950s through his collaborations with Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk and his own explosive groups, Griffin is widely regarded as one of the fastest and most inventive tenor saxophonists in jazz history. A regular presence at Jazzhus Montmartre in the 1960s, he later settled in France while remaining in high demand in Scandinavia and throughout Europe.This release is part of Storyville Records' long-standing tradition of documenting the great figures of American jazz during their European years.
