When J.L. HOOKER recorded this album for Riverside, he set aside his electric guitar to play acoustic guitar, which was very risky for him given that the great strength of his art lies in the accompaniment of a hyper-amplified guitar, resonating like a sometimes hypnotic extension of his voice. A successful gamble. The album is remarkably cohesive, accompanied very sparely by the rhythm section of Cannonball Adderley's group (with Sam Jones and Louis Hayes), another Riverside star. It includes two bonus tracks. For fans of: Howlin' Wolf // Elmore James // Willie Dixon // T Bone Walker
