In 1957, John Coltrane recorded Blue Train, his first and only album as a leader for the Blue Note label, which was released a few months later in 1958. And it is not the least in the discography of the giant. After recording with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane finally has his own group; the time has come for emancipation. Blue Train, like "blue Trane," as the saxophonist's style is already recognizable, if not fully developed. Coltrane plays broadly, descending the octaves with elegance and ease, like an apprentice sorcerer already ahead of his time, creating deep and magnetic melodies on which his choice partners (Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Philly Jones, Paul Chambers, and Kenny Drew) join in. An essential recording for the history of jazz, laying the first milestone of a long and fruitful journey.
