For nearly 60 years, or at least since the young Welshman moved to New York and formed the Velvet Underground, John Cale has consistently reinvented his music with dazzling and inspiring regularity. There was the enchanting chamber folk of Paris 1919, instantly followed by the complex rock of Fear, the cycle of provocative and stripped-down songs of Music for a New Society. Once again, here is John Cale reimagining his way of creating music. This captivating 12-track album, MERCY, shifts from dark electro to vulnerable love songs as well as hopeful considerations for the future. On MERCY, Cale calls upon some of the most unique young minds in contemporary music such as Animal Collective, Sylvan Esso, Laurel Halo, Tei Shi, and Actress. These brilliant musicians slip into John Cale's worldview and help reshape it. Cale turned 80 in March, having witnessed the passing of many of his peers, particularly over the last decade.
