Requiem

Description

The Dunedin Consort presents the first recording of the new edition (produced by David Black, a Mozart specialist, in 2013) of the completion by Su¨ssmayr of Mozart's Requiem. This Grammy-nominated recording allows us to imagine what its very first performance must have looked like.
Released for the first time in 2014, this recording is not only the first to use this new edition but also closely resembles the style and range present during the first performances. The soloists – Joanne Lunn (soprano), Rowan Hellier (alto), Thomas Hobbs (tenor), and Matthew Brook (bass) – are also the section leaders of the choir, which brings great coherence to the relationship between the solo parts and the choirs. By declaring it the winner of the "Choral" award in 2014, Gramophone described the recording as "one of the most refined Mozart Requiems in recent years."
