On The Dancefloor With Joey Dee And The Starliters
Description
Everyone in America is doing the Peppermint Twist with Joey Dee and The Starliters during the first weeks of 1962. It was the country's hottest record, and the Peppermint Lounge, where the band performed six nights a week in downtown Manhattan, was the epicenter of cool jet-set society, with celebrities from all walks of life fighting to get through the door and see Joey and his crew do their energetic Twist. It's been a long time since Dee's Roulette Records catalog received a deluxe CD treatment, so this record is welcome. All the group's big hits are here — both parts of Peppermint Twist, the soundtrack to the film Hey, Let's Twist, their torrid remake of the Isley Brothers' Shout, even their rare pre-Roulette rockers on the Little and Scepter labels. Joey and his Starliters recorded two spectacular live albums at the Peppermint in late '61, with organist Carlton Lattimore and drummer Willie Davis, who cut loose behind Dee and his front line (including David Brigati). Whether on This Boat or Johnny Nash's What Kind Of Love Is This, Mr. Dee was a cool cat and recently gave a superb interview, as illustrated in the liner notes. A perfect audio companion to Joey's autobiography, 'Peppermint Twist Chronicles', which is highly recommended!Buy On The Dancefloor With Joey Dee And The Starliters at the best price
