Weird Sister

Description

The promising Noise Pop band Joanna Gruesome releases their debut album, Weir Sister. Made up of irresistible pop melodies and accompanied by dissonant chords, their songs are played over nervous punk drumbeats. Recorded by the producer of Hookworms, the album draws its inspiration from the DIY punk scene (Riot Grrl/noisepop/C86/K-Records as well as post-hardcore bands such as Drive Like Jehu or Converge. Joanna Gruesomme offers us a very varied album, calm when you least expect it, so powerful is it. The members all met in an anger management therapy group. The songs are therefore not all cheerful, evoking mental illness and the dark side of the soul, though the lyrics are still sprinkled with comic references to the devil, zombies and comic books.
