Although a very talented singer, Joan Shaw (born 1930) was never truly recognized in her early days. She reinvented herself and in 1965, as Salena Jones, moved to Europe where she enjoyed a long and fruitful career, both touring and recording. She became well-known in the United Kingdom and was also very popular in Japan. On Sings for Swingers, Shaw is surrounded by an 11-piece band, including swing greats such as Ernie Royal, Seldon Powell, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Milt Hinton.
