Jnbo is the pseudonym of Henry Jenkins, a composer, producer, sound engineer and bassist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Jenkins is best known as the producer/sound engineer for Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo and the Grammy-nominated Frollen Music Library. As the in-house recording and mixing engineer for College Of Knowledge Records, he has shaped the sonic universe of Melbourne/Naarm's instrumental and cinematic soul movement. With & Friends, Jenkins puts his talent at the service of his own brilliant compositions. The album features 12 introspective instrumental tracks: deep, cinematic odysseys imbued with romance and sincerity, with an irresistible funk touch. With & Friends, the artist brings together his long-time musical collaborators: Hudson Whitlock, Darvid Thor and Callum Riley (Karate Boogaloo), Lachlan Stuckey and Jethro Curtin (Surprise Chef), Lewis Coleman and Lena Douglas (The Cactus Channel). Together, they created original arrangements for three guitars, piano, string synthesizer, Hammond organ, drums and bass, with Jenkins handling bass and production himself. The resulting album is a strikingly original blend; picturesque moods give way to irresistible funk, with the three guitars and three keyboards perfectly positioned in the stereo field. One can perceive the influence of film composer Bernard Herrmann, lounge pioneer Les Baxter and Lamont Dozier (Motown), not to mention the eccentricities unique to JNBO.
