Jim Noir's latest album, AM Jazz, was widely acclaimed by critics, appearing in numerous year-end lists, including a 2nd place at Piccadilly Records. Since then, Noir has released the excellent but underrated Rotate (2023) under the name Co-Pilot, as well as 18 EPs published directly via Patreon. Programmes for Cools compiles the best tracks from these EPs, connected by instrumental interludes inspired by his work for video games and retro-futuristic orchestration. Designed as the spiritual successor to Jimmy's Show (2012), the album is unique, timeless, and rich in memorable melodies. Noir's influences flow freely throughout, wrapped in a dreamlike and haunting atmosphere. The first single Out Of Sight blends Fleetwood Mac and Aphex Twin's ambient period, with an unexpected pop energy. The B-side becomes more esoteric, drawing from Boards of Canada, Stevie Wonder, and Ian Brown. The record concludes with epic and moving tracks, leading to a sense of completion. Noir humorously announces here his final album under this name. An album to be listened to in one go, like a personal Abbey Road.
