15th anniversary edition of Astral Sabbat, the EP by Jess and the Ancient Ones via Svart Records. Jess and the Ancient Ones released a three-song EP titled Astral Sabbat on February 22, 2012, recorded with Swedish sound wizard Tore Stjerna of Necromorbus Studio in their hometown of Kuopio. Astral Sabbat pushed the boundaries of the sound established on their debut album and charted its own path, as shown by the rather unusual choice of the cover of Long and Lonesome Road, originally written and recorded by Dutch rock band Shocking Blue, known for their mega-hit Venus. “We wanted to give these works a space of their own, so that listeners could fully focus on them. To that end, we felt that an EP was the ideal way. As for the surprising choice of cover, I had heard the song at a very young age. And now, after traveling many roads, it came back to me. It’s a timeless song and I hope someone discovers Shocking Blue through us,” guitarist Thomas Corpse said more than 10 years ago. Astral Sabbat proved that Jess and The Ancient Ones were already, at the time, well beyond all those occult, prog or retro-rock tags and were playing their own game.
