The Ice Man Cometh, the most famous LP by Jerry Butler, was the first full album from the production team of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. It marks an excellent collaboration, the first time that R&B production techniques reached a level of maturity and elegance capable of perfectly showcasing one of the smoothest singers in the history of soul. The Top Ten singles, "Hey, Western Union Man" and "Only the Strong Survive," were not only popular radio hits but also great performances demonstrating how far the R&B/soul audience had progressed since the 1950s, which were marked by novelties. Thanks to Butler and Gamble/Huff, this sound proved to be incredibly influential, both in the short term (Elvis Presley definitely listened to and recorded a very similar "Only the Strong Survive" a year later) and in the long term (Gamble and Huff's Philly Intl. label ruled the R&B world of the mid-1970s with the same sound). This is where it all came together. Limited edition DELUXE 180g Vinyl.
