2026 marks both the 60th anniversary of the passing of Gaspar Cassadó and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pablo Casals. In this album, Valérie Aimard and Cédric Lorel pay tribute to these two great Catalan cellists, both of whom were composers. All the colors of Spain resonate in the very rare Sonata in A minor by G. Cassadó, in his flamboyant Requiebros, and in his Suite for solo cello, which we celebrate the centenary of. In striking contrast, the early works of P. Casals and his moving "Cant dels ocells" charm with the simplicity of their poetic and dreamy romanticism. Bound by a long musical friendship, Valérie Aimard and Cédric Lorel highlight the distinctive style of these two great Masters: the fervor of musical gesture, the nobility of discourse, and the elegance of a song imbued with freedom.
