In Celtic mythology, the "Banshee" is a messenger between worlds. The four musicians of The BanXhies have gathered around this image, wanting music to serve as a bridge from the outside world to the inner world. For their very first album, Roxana Rastegar, Yaoré Talibart (violins), Suzanne Wolff (cello), and Louise Acabo (harpsichord) choose to explore the aesthetic reciprocities between Venice and Vienna through the figure of Antonio Caldara... Vienna, latitude 48° North: This is where Antonio Caldara settles, after a journey that began much further south, in Venice, where he was born in 1670. Recognized early on, Caldara leads a career marked by decisive encounters and constant movement. In Venice, he is influenced by the writing of Giovanni Legrenzi and crosses paths with Antonio Vivaldi, who, like him, will later embark on the journey to Vienna. There, Caldara joins a cosmopolitan and flourishing environment, where the influence of traveling musicians such as Georg Muffat has already laid the groundwork for a dialogue between Italian and Germanic styles.
