The "First Lady of Jazz" Rita Reys (1924-2013) began her singing career at the age of 16. This career took her touring across Europe and later to America. There, she sang with famous musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Young, and Jimmy Smith. Reason enough for a tribute! And now another one: the Dutch Jazz Archives recently discovered original arrangements by arranger Oliver Nelson (1932-1975) from the sparkling album Rita Reys recorded in 1965 with Nelson. This album now has cult status worldwide, if only thanks to the star-studded lineup that plays on it.
