For his 14th studio album, Jay-Jay Johanson delivers one of the most direct albums of his discography. After a nuanced trilogy leaning towards a certain introspection (“Bury the hatchet” (2017), “Kings Cross” (2019), “Rorschach Test” (2021)), FETISH opens the door to a new era. Ethereal, melancholic, with cinematic atmospheres on one hand, and dancefloor, hypnotic happiness on the other. An album on which Jay-Jay offers us a remarkable range with the greatest coherence and harmonies. Half of the album is clearly inspired by the musical formation of the Modern Jazz Quartet, his father's favorite group, with which he grew up and developed his musical ear. Nevertheless, this album sounds like a true new era for the singer, certainly due to the presence of tracks from the other half of FETISH: more uptempo songs leaning towards a dance vibe. We are in a summer night outdoors, we are in a decadent club, we are on the edge of a bed and in other places as well: the album intoxicates us in multiple settings and possible interpretations.
