One of Bert Jansch’s last records. Crimson Moon is one of his finest works and finds the musician at the height of his art, with appearances by Johnny Marr (The Smith), Bernard Butler (Suede) and many others. The label Earth Recordings revisits the album for its 20th anniversary. Released in 2000, the record has a dark resonance that highlights contemplative songwriting. The traditional ballads are accompanied by touches of jazz and blues, adorned with contributions from guitarists Johnny Mar, Bernard Butler and Johnny “Guitar” Hodge, as well as vocals from Loren Auerbach, Bert’s wife. Electric guitar is added subtly with percussive fingerpicking, which brings a new depth to his compositions. Released in his sixties, Crimson Moon proves that Bert Jansch is still an innovator with unique talent.
