The Earth Recordings label revisits the album for its 20th anniversary.Released in 2000, the album has a dark resonance that highlights contemplative songwriting. Traditional ballads are accompanied by jazz and blues elements, adorned with contributions from guitarists Johnny Marr, Bernard Butler, and Johnny “Guitar” Hodge, as well as vocals from Loren Auerbach, Bert’s wife. The electric guitar is subtly added with percussive fingerpicking, bringing new depth to his compositions. Released when he was in his sixties, Crimson Moon proves that Bert Jansch was still an innovator with unique talent.
