After gaining notoriety as leader of the Mercury Prize-winning Klaxons and recording with Arctic Monkeys, James Righton is now set to release his debut solo album, The Performer, on Soulwax's prestigious DEEWEE label. Recorded between his home studio and Bryan Ferry's Studio One, The Performer stands in stark contrast to the singer's work with Klaxons, known for their carefree electro style. Now, he draws inspiration from several 70s movements, delving into the smooth lounge of Roxy Music, the shimmering sound of R.E.M., the sumptuous psychedelia of The Beach Boys, and the songwriting talent of Nick Lowe. A collection of indie pop anthems addressing personal themes such as the artist's place on stage and in life, as well as societal issues including Brexit, extremism, and the limits of the capitalist system.
