In 2023, James Elkington released Me Neither, a double album of solo guitar improvisations and experiments. He eventually came to think of it as a collection of instrumental library music. Chicago-based British guitarist James Elkington finds a freedom in this music that seems to come from nowhere. He follows Me Neither with Pastel De Nada, a new double vinyl album whose 27 tracks are more like a toolbox than a library. Bright, optimistic strings like 'The Lyre Concordia', layered meditations like 'Morny in the Earling' and 'The Caves at Aurangabad', and tracks like 'The Equal Spacing' that buzz like little joy-generating machines.
