OPENING

Description

Jakob Bänsch, the new Wynton Marsalis. One of the most promising debuts by a trumpeter since Wynton Marsalis’s first self-titled album for Columbia Records in 1982. Jakob Bänsch’s Opening is a stunning musical manifesto by a young artist from Pforzheim, Germany. The two trumpeters were only 19 when they recorded their first respective albums, 40 years apart. Marsalis went on to become perhaps THE most accomplished and acclaimed trumpeter of his generation, as well as an international ambassador for jazz. “Wynton is a great idol for me,” Jakob said. “Technically, he is probably the world leader in jazz trumpet improvisation. And his playing probably advanced the trumpet itself.” In addition to Marsalis, Jakob cites Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard as major influences on jazz trumpet, which is evident in his sharp articulation, bravado, and high-note attack on tunes like “Repression,” “Partida,” or the driving percussion on “Exosphere.”
