Pyramid

Description

Jaga Jazzist takes us on an epic and interstellar journey with their new album. The Norwegians Jaga Jazzist return with their new album "Pyramid," the first since 2015. This time, they dive into a maelstrom of jazz, post-rock, and psychedelic influences. With a career spanning three decades, the band releases this ninth album on Brainfeeder, the label of Flying Lotus (Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, etc.). Iconoclastic, this new album invents a cosmic sound that pays tribute to the 80s jazz group Out To Lunch, as well as to Norwegian synth guru Ståle Storløkken, while also nodding to the recent works of Todd Terje, Tame Impala, and Jon Hopkins. Each of the four long pieces evolves around brilliantly constructed movements, working to create a symphony of vibrant colors. Unlike the previous album "Starfire," which was built piece by piece in the studio over a two-year period, "Pyramid" came to life in just two short weeks. Locked in a studio in the Swedish forest for 12 days, the band let their experimental tendencies run free. "The most important thing was not to analyze our ideas; our goal was to fully develop the first measures we played together, in order to preserve their freshness," says drummer Martin Hornveth.
