A summit meeting with jazz as a legacy to combat oppression! "Résistance" is a jazz album with 10 tracks, designed as a direct artistic response to the global rise of fascism. Jacques Schwarz-Bart lives in New York. His father, André Schwarz-Bart, was the youngest resistance fighter in France — he took up arms at the age of 12 against the Nazis. His mother co-wrote La Mulâtresse Solitude, a novel dedicated to one of the greatest figures of the resistance to slavery in Guadeloupe. The album pays tribute to figures of resistance — including several Black women: Sarah Maldoror, Maya Angelou, Violetta Chaville — as well as the maroons of the Caribbean (Neg Mawon) and André Schwarz-Bart himself (Song for Abraham S.). The ensemble — saxophone, double bass, drums, without a harmonic instrument — is itself an act of formal freedom. A summit meeting between three exceptional musicians!
