Cabarets 1954 - 1956

Description

The very first studio radio recordings of Jacques Brel in three of France's most legendary cabarets: Chez Geneviève, Chez Gilles and l’Échelle de Jacob, between 1954 and 1956. These are the first radio recordings of Jacques Brel's performances in three legendary cabarets (Chez Geneviève, Chez Gilles and l’Échelle de Jacob, between 1954 and 1956). Accompanied by his guitar alone, the newcomer to Paris delivers his first compositions with the confidence of a future star (including his first hit, Quand on n’a que l’amour, recorded here several months before its release as a 45 rpm single). The second side features a live recital by Jacques Brel, recorded for the "Discoparade" show at the Alhambra in 1962. Far from his confidential beginnings, accompanied by a piano and a string ensemble, the acclaimed artist performs Les Bourgeois, Marieke, La Valse à mille temps and Ne me quitte pas.
