Jackie Mittoo keyboard king

Description

With the Skatalites, Jackie Mittoo invented ska and became one of the most sampled keyboardists (on the Hammond organ) on the planet. His style, heavily spiced, is a blend of various influences from reggae to rocksteady, including soul, rhythm and blues, and funk, his music having nothing to envy from Booker T. & The MG's, nor from Stax productions, as well as the pillar of the Blue Note label, Jimmy Smith, whom he cites as a major influence. Recorded at the famous Studio One, these fifteen tracks traverse the career of this emissary of Jamaican groove who passed away in 1990 at only forty-two years old, after a tour with Bunny Wailer. Timeless, this compilation At Studio One is meant to be listened to on repeat. A must rediscover urgently. --Philippe Robert
