Recognized as the leader of the influential indie rock trio Dinosaur Jr., J Mascis is also a solo artist, producer, and film score composer. After making his debut as a founding member of the hardcore band Deep Wound, he founded Dinosaur Jr. in 1984, which quickly established itself as one of the most respected bands on the alternative rock scene. By reintroducing power and energy into his tracks, Mascis broke free from the constraints of early 1980s hardcore, heavily influencing the nascent grunge movement. His work continues to inspire generations of guitarists and songwriters. In 1991, Dinosaur Jr. disbanded and Mascis released More Light, his first album under the name J Mascis + The Fog. Among the members and collaborators of The Fog are Mike Watt (Minutemen / fIREHOSE), Ron Asheton (The Stooges), Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices), Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine), Dave Schools (Hard Working Americans / Widespread Panic), and Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk).
