Itasca is the project of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Kayla Cohen, based in Los Angeles. Her timeless recordings under the name Itasca have evolved over several releases, including Spring (2019), reflecting her vision of baroque writing, influenced by acid folk, and disruptive, textural sounds. On Imitation of War, Kayla Cohen pushes Itasca into rockier territory, with a series of smoky nocturnes and anxious idylls that traverse, with refreshing urgency, both classic and personal mythologies and psychologies. Co-produced by Robbie Cody (Wand, Behavior), these ten solid pieces represent the freest, most stripped-down, and most electric recordings in Kayla Cohen's ever-expanding catalog. Distilled into an oceanic essence of guitars, bass, drums, and vocals, Imitation of War is her most theatrical collection of songs and performances to date.
