King Tubby and producer Bunny "Striker" Lee are inseparable from the birth of dub. After discovering a mistake that led to a joke, they released the first records of this new musical genre: dub. Tubby's vast knowledge of electronics and Bunny's rich rhythmic repertoire laid the groundwork for what is now considered a standard: the remix/version relies on an existing vocal melody. One day, Tubby and Striker were at Treasure Isle studios while Ruddy from Spanish Town was working with sound engineer Byron Smith… In 1972, Dynamic Sounds switched to recording sixteen tracks, and Tubby acquired, through a deal negotiated by Bunny Lee, the old four-track equipment and MCI console from their Studio B. The four tracks now offered him much greater creative freedom, and he began to develop a new musical form where the bass and drums were highlighted while the faders allowed him to balance the voice and rhythm in the mix. It was only a matter of time before Tubby's experiments on dubplate were pressed onto vinyl and the first albums by King Tubby became available.
