The extremely enthusiastic reception given to our first CD and double vinyl of the original A and B sides of the singles by the late Isaac Hayes - originally released on Enterprise, a Stax subsidiary, between 1969 and 1972 - has forced us to bring forward, this month, the release of “Hot Buttered Singles2” in order to meet popular demand that, according to Ace, will be just as strong. This volume picks up where “Hot Buttered Singles Vol 1” left off with Hayes’ last 45 from 1972, and continues his story through to 1976 - by which time Stax had disappeared and Hayes was on his own label, Hot Buttered Soul, via ABC Records. It includes eight US R&B hits, among them the much-sampled “Hung Up On My Baby” and “Chocolate Chip”, Hayes’ biggest hit at the time, “Joy”, and the ever-popular 1976 instrumental, “Disco Connection”, which finally gave Hayes his second UK Top 20 hit after “Shaft”. All tracks are as per the original single versions and, wherever possible, are taken from digital transfers of the original Enterprise single masters. As the original 45s were in two parts, they are also available here. And when the original single masters no longer exist, as was the case for two tracks, Ace’s engineers have recreated them beat for beat from the longer album versions. (Have fun guessing which ones...) As with “Hot Buttered Singles Vol 1”, the LP sleeves and CD booklet are packed with label shots, many other images and a detailed sleeve note that goes into detail on the songs featured. This makes the album as beautiful as it is beautiful.
