After a classical music education, Irmin Schmidt founded the group Can in the 1960s, which continued to expand its influence to this day, leaving an indelible mark on modern music. After its dissolution in the late 70s, Schmidt returned to his solo work, and the result is a vast body of work: 8 albums, a ballet, and over 100 film participations. Irmin Schmidt combines what normally clashes: rock, pop, jazz, classical, electro, ambient. Today, he is releasing a compilation of his solo work and work in cinema. VILLA WUNDERBAR will be released on November 22nd on Mute and Spoon as a 4-vinyl box set. The first two albums in the Villa Wunderbar box set are compilations of Irmin Schmidt's work as a solo artist over the last 30 years, while the other two – selected and presented by director Wim Wenders – are a glimpse into the artist's work as a composer for film and television, for which Wenders has written numerous notes.
