ILS - pronounced [ ilz ] - is a four-piece band from Portland, composed of four guys with extensive experience: Tom Glose (Black Elk) on over-the-top vocals, Nate Abner (The Days, The Nights) on guitar, Tim Steiner (Passerby) on drums, and Adam Pike (White Orange) on bass. ILS knows its subject: a harsh and eruptive blues set within a wall of guitars. One might mention the bulldozer sound of Cosmic Psychos, but the band also evokes the brutal Unsane with their head-spinning, tearing melodies. The sonic oppression of The Jesus Lizard also comes to mind. With ILS, then, there's this lineage from the noisiest of the 90s, a powerful rock that, like lightning, enters through your ears and exits through your feet. Behind this electric foam, there's a rage rising from deep within, desires to fight, a need to scream. You suffocate, you exult. The melody obsesses and your head spins. Your breath is short and the temperature humid. At the crossroads of rock, noise, death, and hardcore, there is ILS. Uncompromising.
