The seed of ill peach was first planted in New York studios, where Pat Morrissey and Jess Corazza worked together as songwriters, collaborating with artists such as Icona Pop, SZA, Weezer, Pharrell, Big Freedia, and others. They are a pop band with a punk edge and a 'weirdo' approach to music. After a series of well-received EPs on their own label Pop Can Records, ill peach’s quirks come to fruition on their debut album, This Is Not An Exit. It’s a collection of anthems built from luminous pop and gritty experimental elements—the duo was notably inspired by the sculptural use of distortion on Low's later albums—punctuated by catchy choruses. While ill peach first blossomed in New York, it took a lockdown in Los Angeles for the project to fully mature. A combination of hope and anxiety permeates This Is Not An Exit, reflected in a sonic palette—alternative, electronica, indie, radio pop—as eclectic as it is unpretentious.
