Ian William Craig has created an album of incredible beauty, sadness, and depth. The Vancouver-based singer-songwriter returns with a brilliant and moving new album. It is his first piano-centered album in a long time, and also one of the most stripped-down. It was made during an intense period of personal difficulties and in the context of environmental catastrophe. "Red Sun Through Smoke" was recorded over two weeks in August 2018 in Kelowna, while the city was surrounded by wildfires that, due to climate change, now occur regularly in British Columbia during the summer. With smoke engulfing the landscape, the album was recorded from start to finish in the living room of a small house owned by his grandfather, who was placed in palliative care and tragically passed away halfway through the recording, his lungs filled with fluid due to the smoke. Forged by this trauma, Ian William Craig has created an album of incredible beauty, sadness, and depth. "Red Sun Through Smoke" is a deeply moving album, a record that stands out without showing any signs of fatigue.
