For American composer Caroline Shaw, writing music is like "preparing a meal for someone you love," she confides to BBC Music Magazine. The youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, she has created works at Carnegie Hall and the BBC Proms. She even toured the United States with Kanye West and appeared in the famous HBO series Mozart in the Jungle... A good dish and music "must both be nourishing and complex; you can easily taste it at first before discovering that there is much more beneath the surface." This closely resembles Shaw's music: "Her work combines immediate and sensual appeal with great structural rigor," concludes journalist Kate Wakeling. This album was born from the collaboration between the composer, David Violi, Pauline Buet, and their partners from I Giardini. It features a monograph of chamber music, with a world premiere work, The Wheel, a dialogue between the voice of the cello and the piano.
