A wonderfully beautiful release of Psychedelic Garage Folk from the late 60s (1966-1968). An inspired blend of 13th Floor Elevator, Love or the Seeds, qualitatively, but with something incomprehensible added. Human Expression is that kind of cursed band, never having known the slightest recognition, recognition they would have deserved at the time. Only a few tracks were released on LP on garage compilations (Optical Sound, Love at a Psychedelic Velocity and Reading Your Will), but the rest has never yet existed in LP pressing. Discovered by chance on an old cassette compilation, this band will fascinate lovers of psychedelic rock and sixties rock, but not only them! Far from being yet another variation on the leading bands of the era, Human Expression’s compositions fascinate with their beauty. You get lost in their music, you wander through personal and sad stories. The compositions sometimes evoke Skip Spence, Peter Grudzien or other wounded souls that only America is capable of producing. At a time when every Sixties band gets its reissue, Human Expression had to wait until 2013 for its first release! Now gone, the band’s leader Jim Quarles sings his post-adolescent discomfort in his nasal voice at a psychedelic pace. A real finesse of writing, composition and a naïve garage rock attitude make this record an obvious lost classic of the 60s. We could not have been happier than to release a Human Expression record for the first true Rock'n'roll release on Moi J'Connais Records. Released in co-production with Mississippi Records, which simply considers this release “one of their best releases.” That says a lot! LP with a bonus 45rpm. Good old “tip on” sleeve and gold ink printing.
