Description
On *Colonial Patterns*, Brian Leeds (aka Huerco S.) takes his Kansas City surroundings as the backdrop for his musical universe, deconstructing Midwest house and techno. The tracks are raw and deconstructed. Working with cheap software, synths, and cassettes, Leeds seeks to desacralize modern dance music, giving his tracks a more emotive feel. The album features hybrid and ambient experiments reminiscent of Jon Hassell and the stroboscopic melancholy of William Basinski. When the tracks lean towards house/techno, they echo Midwest pioneers like Ron Hardy, Omar S., and Theo Parrish.
