HTRK is starting a new chapter with *Psychic 9-5 Club*, the first album recorded entirely as a duo by Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang after the passing of former member Sean Stewart during the recording of *Work (Work, Work)* in 2011. The album delves into a period of sadness and struggle, but also finds hope, humor, and love within it. While the band's identity remains recognizable—Standish's voice at the center and minimalist, dubby productions—the duo explores new directions. The reverberating guitars of *Marry Me Tonight* and the fuzzy growls of *Work (Work, Work)* give way to a more tender and refined aesthetic, emphasizing sparse arrangements and minimalist sound design. The album was recorded at Blazer Sound Studios in New Mexico with Nathan Corbin (Excepter), then re-worked in Australia and finalized in New York. At the heart of *Psychic 9-5 Club* is love in all its forms: self-love, love for others, or love as a distraction. Standish explores her voice with an expanded palette, ranging from spoken word, singing, and laughter, while Yang's production highlights his characteristic dub techniques.
