Hrsta (pronounced "her-shta") is the project of guitarist and founding member of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mike Moya. On this third album — the second released on Constellation — he is joined by Brooke Crouser (Jackie-O Motherfucker) on organ, guitars, and various effects. Since 2006, Brooke has become the band's second creative force, accompanying Mike on stage and contributing fully to composition and arrangements. The loyal rhythm section, composed of Harris Newman (bass) and Eric Craven (drums), bolsters the framework of several tracks. "Ghosts Will Come And Kiss Our Eyes" is a collection of haunted psych-folk tracks, sculpted around Mike Moya's immediately recognizable guitar playing and his fragile, spectral voice — somewhere between Daniel Johnston and Wayne Coyne on sedatives. Dominated by the organic textures of Hammond and pump organs, the album deploys a dense sound world, saturated with shifting layers, persistent drones, and suspended chords. Alternating between vocal and instrumental tracks, the album oscillates between tension and appeasement, unease and wonder, like a dreamlike drift between cataclysm and clarity. The instrumental pieces — superb — are born from the alchemy between guitar and organ, forging a deeply evocative space. Carefully recorded by David Bryant (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Set Fire To Flames) at The Pines studio, Ghosts Will Come And Kiss Our Eyes is imbued with an atmosphere that is both strange and intimate. It is, to date, Hrsta's most accomplished album.
