HOWLER "World of Joy" Minneapolis band Howler is back with their second album, "World of Joy," a blend of garage-punk and surf music. The four energetic members, adept at making their guitars sing, had already gained recognition with their debut LP "America Give Up," which drew comparisons to The Strokes, Black Lips, and The Vaccines, with whom they extensively toured. The album was recorded in their hometown at Terrarium Studio, with Chris Heidman producing. 21-year-old angelic-faced frontman Jordan Gatesmith explained that he wanted his record to "sound almost like a jukebox in a forgotten Minneapolis bar, playing Thin Lizzy, Kiss, The Smiths, The Stooges one after another... This album is a tribute to rock and roll and those who contributed to it and whom we admire." Mission accomplished; the guitar riffs are exhilarating and immediate, as in all good rock albums.
