Alaafia - Vinyle Splatter Rouge & Noir

Description

Honour's debut album is a thread that stretches from Lagos to London and New York, traversing the diaspora and painting the dark shades of blues, hip-hop, free jazz, ambient, gospel, Christian mythology, and Yoruba folklore. As cinematic as it is pictorial, Àlàáfíà is a meditation on the themes of life, death, and love, drawing inspiration from the unexpected poetic depth of casual conversations, field recordings, literature, or personal archives. By applying the fundamental principles of hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and gospel to timeless compositions and soundscapes, Honour creates a record that navigates its own knotty contradictions. The ghosts that rest on the artist's shoulders have never been as tangible as they are with this emotionally charged debut album.
